Every October I go through the same ritual: pull the boots out of the closet, find that one pair has finally given up, and spend a week telling myself I’ll “just make do.” I never do. This year I spent some time on the Sam Edelman Canada site before buying anything, and it’s a good reminder of why the brand keeps showing up in so many fall wardrobes.

The Sylvia Knee High Boot is the one I’d look at first. It has a slim, sleek leg, a pointed toe and a mid-height block heel that you can actually walk in. It’s listed at CA$265, and there’s an Extra Wide Calf version at CA$240, which matters more than people think. A lot of brands stop at one calf width, and if a tall boot has ever refused to zip on you, you know how frustrating that is.

The Loafer That Fills the Gaps
Boots are great until it’s 15 degrees and sunny and you don’t want anything over your ankles. That’s where the Loraine Bit Loafer comes in. It’s probably Sam Edelman’s best-known style, and for good reason. The low profile and the gold bit detail make it look polished with trousers, but it’s just as good with straight jeans and a knit.
On the Canadian site the Loraine runs from about CA$180 to CA$205 depending on the material and colour. The dark suede (Cafe Noir) is the one I’d pick for fall. It hides scuffs better than smooth leather and looks warmer with autumn colours.

What Else Is Worth a Look This Season
- Suede everything. There’s a whole “Fall Fresh Suede” edit, with boots, flats and loafers in browns and caramels that pair with the camel coat you already own.
- Slingbacks for the in-between days. The Bianka slingback in caramel croc-effect finish has a low kitten heel, so it works at the office and at dinner.

A couple of things I found useful when browsing the Canadian store:

Is Sam Edelman Worth It?
If you want shoes that look current, hold up to a real Canadian fall, and don’t cost designer money, I think it is. My advice is to choose one hero piece rather than three trendy ones. For most people that’s either a knee-high boot like the Sylvia or a do-everything loafer like the Loraine. Get that right and the rest of the season gets a lot easier to dress for.
